Group photo of student work – ornaments approximately 3″ diameter

Mixed Media Ornaments with theresa mARTin $63.00
Saturday, December 14, 2019
10:00 am – 2:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break

All Supplies Provided! Inspired by an Antique Reliquary, theresa mARTin got out her supplies of pearls, rhinestones and beads and set to work to embellish Amazing Alterables™, laser-cut decorative wood fiberboard shapes from PaperWhimsy, approximately 3 inches in size. Enjoy this opportunity to dig into Theresa’s wondrous stash of beads, baubles and trims and craft your own ornaments, perfect as a handmade gift, to keep for your holiday tree, use as a gift package tie-on or even year-round display. Class fee, $48.00 + supply/kit fee of $15, which includes all necessary materials to create two ornaments — decorating both sides gives you even more opportunity to be creative! (Additional ornament bases may be available for purchase directly from the instructor the day of class, depending on the final class size.) Although all supplies are provided, feel free to bring in your own assorted beads, charms and embellishments, even small copies of family photographs so that you can add an even more personal touch to your creations, or match your holiday décor. Glenview Mansion Art Gallery Opening Photos

Here are some scenes from yesterday’s opening at Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. Thanks to everyone who came out and joined us. We were too busy enjoying the company of friends and family to get many photos of the show, or any of us! It was great fun, and thanks to Julie Farrell, the Director for the thoughtful and creative ways she displayed our work.

Loved how Julie placed these two portraits of my niece and me together without knowing it was a portrait of my niece.

The Alice in Wonderland “Chopped” Challenge

Martin MorsAlice Challenge

John Mors and I have each created an art piece based on “Alice In
Wonderland” in response to a CHOPPED style challenge that we gave to ourselves.

CHOPPED is a great show  on The Food Network where chefs are given three to
five of the same ingredients and are expected to feature them in a meal.

Our same ‘ingredients’ were an odd shaped cigar box, a wine box, a vintage
photo that reminded us of Alice and a small rabbit.

We present our chopped meal to whet your appetite for our show at Glenview
Mansion Gallery in November of 2016.

I’m not telling you which is mine and which is John’s. I’m leaving that for
you to guess.  If you know our work, it’s probably not too hard.  Let me
know in the comments what you’ve decided.

Lovers Eye Token Class

January 17: Mixed Media Eye Token with theresa mARTin in Alexandria VA

Mixed Media Eye Token Workshop with theresa mARTin
Saturday, January 17, 2015
10:00 am – 1:00 pm All Supplies Provided! In the 18th and 19th century, Lover’s Eye Tokens were popular with the wealthy. A miniaturist painted only the eye of a lover, to preserve anonymity, thus only the recipient knew the identity of the person depicted. The tokens were often elaborately decorated and worn as bracelets, brooches or pendants. Create your own version using the provided love token form (an oval, landscape format approximately 3″ x 2″, as shown in the sample photograph), beads, pearls, rhinestones, and an eye portrait. Class fee, $30.00 + supply/kit fee of $20.00, which includes all necessary supplies; students will have a choice of different kits and colors.Note: while all supplies are provided, you may choose to bring in assorted beads, charms and embellishments from your stash to add an even more personal touch. For ideas and to see a variety of tokens made by theresa mARTin, visit her pinterest board.

Just Finished – A Paperwhimsy piece and a Quirky Embroidery piece.

Quirky Man Embroidery

This is the latest Quirky Embroidery piece. Gold, blue and black are the colors of the moment.  I’ve added paper and rhinestones to the embroidery. I’m thinking about pushing the quirky pieces more towards the mixed media pieces I love, like the paperwhimsy piece above. A combination of the two may be in the future.
